This is God's world, so churches should speak out about it

I really like Cal Thomas’ columns as a rule, but like many of the other posts relating to today‘s column (9-30-2008), I feel he missed a crucial point: Christians do not live and act in a vacuum. Society is formed by governmental policies, and those policies are promulgated by individuals. Many church congregants are uninformed about doctrinal issues of the day and how to apply scriptural truths, so they look to their minister to inform them, or at least that is the plan. Take abortion, for example, even though it should be eminently plain that murder is wrong, and killing unborn babies is murder. Should not a sermon on the sanctity of life and love  for one's fellowman include an admonition against such an evil practice, and exhort all who are listening to stand up against those who endorse such sinful ways? No Christian is an island, aloof from the carnal world and its hellish practices: Rather, a Christian is one who has eternal truth, and is commanded that, as he has been warned, to warn his neighbor. We cannot be Christians and not open our mouths about sin, and the major purveyors of sin are now societal in scope, as in main stream media, activist judges, liberal politicians, Muslim apologists (for to deny Christ is a sin), and all others who wish a secular humanist society. Even some Christian churches, so-called, have struck their colors and become cheerleaders for the depraved and ungodly, which you can see in the schisms dividing the Anglican community over gay marriage and ordinations, putatively active Catholic legislators (think Biden and Pelosi here) who actively promote abortion while not being denied Mass by their liberal ecclesiastical authorities, not to mention the near 100% support of Christian black churches for Obama. The pure word of God is not hip, cool and non-judgmental, so liberal Christians either hide from it, or change the Word to fit their desires. Christians have the right, and the obligation, to call out every party who advocates sin and deception, especially if it be our government who is the guilty party, and the churches should do so without fear of being taxed. The correct quote, by the way, is that "the power to tax is the power to destroy", not merely control. Lastly, Cal and other friends, do you not remember that all the early Saints were killed by the state of Rome for the offense of refusing to denounce their faith? By Cal's logic, they should have just submitted to Roman law, and then we would have no problems now, because the Christian church would have been destroyed 2,000 years ago instead of still being a pesky thorn in the side of unrighteous leaders. It is a cultural war we are engaged in, so let us be Christian Warriors, opening our mouths and testifying of Him and his laws without fear, and without restraint while trying to have His will be done on earth, as it is in Heaven. That is what He taught us to pray for, and if we do anything less, we are not worthy to be His.
